INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team stayed perfect to open Horizon League play as the Jaguars breezed past UIC, 7-0, inside West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday (Mar. 26). The Jags took two of the three doubles contests to open the match and then swept all six courts of singles to improve to 2-0 in Horizon League play.
IUPUI (6-12, 2-0 HL) outlasted the Flames in doubles, collecting wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to earn the day's initial point. The tandem of
Alex Jochim and
Emil Jankowski won for a fifth straight time at No. 1, defeating the UIC pair by a 7-5 score. That came well after
Sean Bailey and
Kamil Kozerski had secured a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles for the team point.
In singles play, IUPUI's superior depth was apparent as the Jaguars won five of the six matches in straight sets. Jankowski made quick work at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win and
Colton Morehart cruised at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 7-6.
Three Jags had tougher times, but still came away victorious as Bailey won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Kozerski won 7-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. At No. 5 singles,
Blessing Benibo won a thriller, 7-6, 7-5.
Kozerski's victory was his team-high 12th win of the season and ninth of the spring.
At the top spot, Jochim earned a win in a three setter, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) after the team point had been decided.
IUPUI will continue its current homestand when the Jaguars host North Dakota on Thursday (Mar. 31) at 1:00 p.m.
