INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team fell at home to a streaking Saint Louis team on Friday, 7-0, inside the West Indy Racquet Club.
Meghan Bernard and
Samantha Hayward teamed up for a doubles win and also played three-set singles matches in the defeat.
Saint Louis (8-4) won a seventh straight match with Friday's victory.
The Billikens took the day's initial doubles point with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, despite Bernard and Hayward posting an emphatic 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot. It marked Bernard and Hayward's third win of the season as a tandem.
Their strong play carried over to singles play, but SLU had more than enough, firepower, including a default win at No. 6 to quickly lead 2-0. SLU's Norhan Hesham knocked off
Christina Stankovic at the No. 1 spot to make it 3-0 and sealed the win at No. 5 singles as Jessica Stefan picked off
Marta Krakowski, 6-1, 6-2.
Sarah Lounsbury hung tough in a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 3 singles and both Bernard and Hayward pushed their matches to three sets at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots. Bernard rallied back from a 6-1 opening set to win the second 6-3 before ultimately falling 10-8 in the third.
Hayward won her opening set 7-5 before falling in the second 6-3 and 10-3 in the third.
The Jaguars will return to action on Sunday, Mar. 20 when they trek to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats on the road at 1:00 p.m.
