INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's tennis team returned to Indy and earned their first win of the spring season over Illinois State today, 4-3.
Alex Jochim earned the winning point at No. 1 singles to walk it off for the Jags.
IUPUI started out behind after Illinois State swept the doubles matches and earned the doubles point. The Jags fought back and won four out of the six singles matches.
Freshman
Nate Day continued to have success on the court with a win at No. 6 singles in two sets (6-3, 6-3) while
Kamil Kozerski earned a No. 5 singles win in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-1). Senior
Sean Bailey took the No. 3 singles match in two sets (6-1, 6-4) and Jochim earned the fourth point and sealed the win for the Jags in a close match (7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4).
Sophomore
Emil Jankowski had a strong outing taking his match to three sets with two tiebreakers but ultimately fell (7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-7 (5)).
With the win, the Jags improve to 1-6 and will be back in action next weekend at Xavier on Friday (Feb. 11) at 1:30 PM.
