JAGS FALL AT HOME TO ROBERT MORRIS, 66-49

Senior B.J. Maxwell tallies 16 points in the defeat

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team's offensive woes continued on Saturday (Feb. 5) as the Jaguars fell at home to Robert Morris, 66-49. The Jaguars shot just 30.5 percent from the floor and was outscored 38-22 after halftime in the loss.

Graduate transfer B.J. Maxwell led IUPUI with 16 points and freshman Boston Stanton III had 10 points and four boards off the bench. Fellow freshman Chuks Isitua had one of his better showings of the season, collecting six points, a career-high 12 boards and two blocked shots in the defeat.

Kahliel Spear led Robert Morris (6-17, 4-10 HL) with 17 points and 11 boards and Enoch Cheeks finished with 14 points and eight boards.

The game unfolded much the way many have this season as IUPUI (2-19, 0-10 HL) fell into a deep early hole, battled back and then ran out of gas after intermission. RMU surged out to a 20-9 lead midway through the first half before the Jaguars scored 10 straight points to cut the lead back to one. Maxwell ignited the run with a driving layup and both Bakari LaStrap and Stanton contributed traditional three-point plays during the rally.

The margin stayed at one as RMU led 28-27 at the half.

The Colonials outscored IUPUI 12-2 to start the second half, including threes from Matt Mayers and Jaron Williams to regain a double-digit lead. The Jaguars' six-man band was able to cut the deficit back to four midway through the second half, but folded late, scoring just eight points over the final nine minutes.

IUPUI committed just 10 turnovers and held RMU to just eight points off turnovers, but lost the glass by a 37-34 margin. LaStrap finished with nine points and three steals and Mike DePersia had three points, four boards and a season-high six assists in 37 minutes of work. Nathan McClure closed with five points, five rebounds and played all but 21 seconds.

IUPUI will now hit the road for five straight road games, beginning at Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m..
