INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team capped its 2021-22 regular season on Saturday (Feb. 26), falling inside the Jungle to Green Bay, 67-41.
Nathan McClure registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards and
Mike DePersia finished in double-digits with 11 points and five assists. Graduate transfer
B.J. Maxwell turned in six points and 10 boards in the loss.
Kamari McGee led Green Bay (5-24, 4-16 HL) with 13 points and Emmanuel Ansong added 12 points and five boards. Green Bay shot 54 percent overall and held IUPUI to just 30.9 percent for the game. The Jaguars (3-25, 1-16 HL) played the bulk of the game with only five healthy bodies after an early injury to sophomore
Bakari LaStrap.
IUPUI scored the game's first eight points, including four from
Chuks Isitua, but the offense went silent from there. Green Bay scored the game's next 15 as IUPUI misfired on its next seven attempts and committed five turnovers in a near six-minute span. The issues were compounded when LaStrap hobbled to the sidelines at the 17:21 mark leaving the Jags with just five healthy bodies. Green Bay took full advantage, rolling to a 32-16 halftime lead. Green Bay shot 50 percent in the opening half while IUPUI managed just 23.3 percent and an 0-of-12 effort from three-point range.
By the time IUPUI (3-25, 1-16 HL) finally made a trey, a McClure left wing connection with 9:16 left, Green Bay had built a 22-point lead and was coasting to the win. The only suspense after halftime was whether or not the Jaguars would make it to the final horn with five on the floor. Isitua played the final 11:22 with four personal fouls and McClure was saddled with his fourth with 6:07 remaining.
Boston Stanton III blew out a shoe in front of his own bench with 4:54 left, causing a sizable delay as he was given time to track down and lace up some different kicks.
Isitua finished with eight points, five boards and a season-high four blocked shots and Stanton had four points off the bench.
IUPUI will enter the Keeps Horizon League Men's Basketball Championships as the No. 12 seed and will face No. 5 Oakland on Tuesday night (Mar. 1) at 7:00 p.m. inside OU's Athletics Center O'rena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
