PENDLETON, Ind. - The IUPUI men's tennis team got a point from
Alex Jochim at the top of the lineup to account for its lone point on Sunday (Feb. 20) as the Jaguars fell to Ball State at the Community Sports Wellness Center, 6-1. Two others,
Kamil Kozerski at No. 4 singles and
Blessing Benibo at No. 6 singles, split sets before falling in decisive third set losses.
Ball State (5-3) collected the doubles point with at trio of 6-4 victories. Jochim and
Emil Jankowski fell at the No. 1 spot to BSU's Danilo Kovacevic and Chris Adams just ahead of
Sean Bailey and Kozerski dropping their match at No. 3. Benibo and
Colton Morehart suffered a similar fate at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, BSU cruised at Nos. 2 and 3 to build a 3-0 lead in the match. Morehart fell to Thibault de Negri, 6-1, 6-4 and Bailey dropped his decision to Nathaniel Webster, 6-1, 7-6. The Cardinals ultimately secured the win when Vince Orlando edged past freshman
Nate Day at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-6.
After dropping the opening set, Kozerski rallied to win set two at No. 4 singles before falling 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Benibo fell at No. 6 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Jochim outlasted Kovacevic at the top spot in a marathon affair, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. The win was Jochim's fourth of the season and his third at the No. 1 spot in the Jaguars' lineup.
IUPUI (3-8) will be back on the road on Friday (Feb. 25) when the Jaguars face Toledo.
