MEN'S TENNIS STAYS UNDEFEATED AT HOME WITH 6-1 WIN OVER HOLY CROSS

Jaguars win for a third time in four matches

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team earned the doubles point and followed by winning five of six singles matches to breeze past Holy Cross on Friday (Feb. 18), 6-1. The win kept IUPUI undefeated at home this season and was a third victory in the Jaguars' past four matches.

"The energy and intensity the guys are bringing on the court and on the sideline is really helping us with the success at home," head coach Bren Vasalakis said. We are competing well and stepping up in big moments when needed.

"One of those big moments was at No. 2 doubles today. Blessing and Colton winning in the tiebreaker to get us the doubles point really set a tone for singles and we didn't let off the gas after that."

Alex Jochim and Emil Jankowski dialed up a shutout at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-0 victory while Kamil Kozerski and Sean Bailey fell at the No. 3 spot, 6-4. The Jaguars captured the day's initial point as Colton Morehart and Blessing Benibo outlasted the Holy Cross duo at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (10-8).

The momentum continued into singles as the Jaguars as Morehart dialed up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles and Bailey won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. The Jaguars also got straight sets wins at No. 5 and No. 6 as freshman Nate Day won at No. 5, 7-6 (5), 6-2 and Benibo won at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4.

Day improved to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in duals this spring.

Jochim fell at the top spot in the Jaguars' order, 6-4, 6-2 and Kozerski captured a three-set win at No. 4, 5-6, 6-0, 1-0.

IUPUI will take on Ball State at the Community Sports and Wellness Center in Pendleton, Ind., at 1:00 p.m.
