INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team fell to Green Bay in their Horizon League home opener despite a late surge in the fourth quarter, 81-76.
Destiny Perkins led the Jaguar offense with a career-high 28 points.
"Tough loss today, but there were a lot of positives to take away from today's game," said head coach
Kate Bruce. "It is still early in the season and our team continues to work hard and get better every game."
Green Bay (4-3, 1-1 HL) lead for most of the game, taking a two-point lead in the first quarter, 18-16, and extending their lead to ten points heading into the half with a 14-8 run. IUPUI came out shooting in the second half going 6-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-5 behind the arc to stay within striking distance at 63-56. Perkins scored nine points in the third quarter to help claw the Jaguars back.
The Jags tied the game at 69 with four minutes left to go with a layup from Perkins.
Genesis Parker added ten points in just the fourth quarter to counter the Green Bay attack. The back-and-forth battle ended when the Phoenix took the lead with less than a minute to play and held on, adding to their lead and finishing the game at 81-76.
Perkins led the IUPUI offense with a career-high 28 points, shooting 11-for-19 from the floor and 6-for-12 from behind the arc.
Rachel Kent totaled 13 points and eight rebounds while Parker added 13 points and
Ali Berg collected eight boards. The Jags shot 44.8 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from the three-point line.
IUPUI will be back in the Jungle on Monday night when they host Milwaukee for a 7 PM tip.
