INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI Jaguars closed out the three-day invite with four first-place finishes, two IUPUI records, one meet record and several top ten times on the final day of competition. The night was highlighted by
Emmaleigh Zietlow's win in the 1650 free with a new IUPUI and meet record time of 16:36.70 and
Gabrielle Puryear-Lynch's new IUPUI record time of 2:03.14 in the 200 fly.
Logan Kelly also earned a first-place finish in the 200 breast. The Jags had 28 athletes seal their spots in the finals during the first half of the day.
"How 'bout them Jags!" said head coach
Damion Dennis. "Another overall great session from everyone contributing in the pool and everyone supporting out of the pool. Twenty-five new top ten times, school records, meet records and too many personal bests to count. I'm super proud of the team, through all the adversity the past month, we stepped up and showed true heart and character."
Diving once again locked several spots in the finals with
Isabella Smith leading the way for the Jags with a second-place finish in the women's 3-meter dive with a score of 275.03.
Sadie Smith followed in fourth place while
Deirdre Leib and
Kayla Gott also recorded finals points. For the men,
Alex Scott placed fourth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 297.25 and
Adam Schmehl took sixth.
During the finals session IUPUI collected four first-place finishes. On the men's side, Kelly earned his second first-place finish on the meet in the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.48. The men's 400 free relay team made up of
Spencer Jyawook,
Kevin Burke,
Ben Kimmel and
Wes Wickens sealed the first-place win with a time of 2:59.12.
IUPUI was well represented in the men's 200 back with three Jaguars placing in the finals.
Grayson Tidwell took second place (1:47.97) while
Dane Charleston took third (1:48.91) and
Ben Kimmel came in at fifth (1:49.25). The Jags had two place in the 200 fly with
Isaac Wilson taking third (1:49.79) and
Nick Dibley in seventh (1:52.41).
Spencer Jyawook earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 44.69.
The women's team was led by Zietlow and Puryear-Lynch. Zietlow won the 1650 free with a new IUPUI and meet record time of 16:36.70 while Puryear-Lynch earned first in the 200 fly with an IUPUI record time of 2:03.14.
"For the team as a whole I think the meet was super exciting!" said sophomore
Emmaleigh Zietlow. "We had a lot of standout swims, and this is a great outlook for what conference is going to look like in a couple months. As for myself and my races, I'm super proud that I kept the intensity going throughout the meet and I can't wait to see what conference looks like!"
Other top times for the women included the women's 400 free relay team made up of Zietlow, Lilly Brandt,
Avery Brooks and Maddy Weber earning third with a time of 3:28.97.
Emma Theobald placed third in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.26 and
Zoe Hendrickx placed fifth in the 200 fly (2:07.50).
Overall, the women's team took fourth place with a total of 1026 points and the men's team placed second with 1366 points.
"This is the team culture and high-performance environment we have been talking about building all year and we are starting to really see it show," said Dennis. "I feel like this is the true starting point of the season."
This concluded the Jaguar's fall season and will next compete at Eastern Illinois on December 3.
