PERKINS SETS NEW 8K RECORD AT BRADLEY 'PINK' CLASSIC

Nick Perkins beats the previous school record by less than a second on Friday (Oct. 14)

PEORIA, Ill. - Junior Nick Perkins broke the IUPUI men's cross country team's 8K record on Friday (Oct. 14) at the Bradley 'Pink' Classic, lowering the previous mark by just two-tenths of a second. Perkins ran a time of 24:06.3 to finish 32nd overall, taking seven seconds off his previous best. Grant Moon was just off his pace with a personal best time of 24:07.1, placing 34th overall. Moon shed well over a minute off his prior best effort. 

As a team, the Jaguars placed ninth of 35 teams with 308 points. 

"We did awesome today. I'm super proud of all the guys," Perkins said. "We had our wakeup call early this season and now we are where we need to be. Conference won't be an easy race, but there will be zero hesitation from this team."

Eric Petersen ran a personal best time of 24:17.8 to place 45th overall, taking 48 seconds off his previous best. Redshirt freshman Will Clark clocked a personal best time of 25:00.7 to shed 38 seconds off his previous best and Mitchell Gits crossed at 25:06.4 to trim 11 seconds off his previous best. 

Mitchell Rans spun a time of 25:21.0 and Alex Alba finished at 25:40.5 for a 15-second personal best. 

Three of IUPUI's four entrants in the White Race also recorded personal bests, keyed by Jack Acton's seventh-place finish. Acton crossed at 25:21.8 to cut almost two full minutes off his prior best. Wilson Whicker finished at 26:06.9 to shed seven seconds and Keith Bye ran a time of 26:34.6 to shave 22 seconds off his previous best. Justin Amburgy rounded out those entries with a time of 26:48.3. 

Loyola edged Wichita State by two points for the Red Race victory and Loyola runners collected the top two spots as Ryan Martins crossed at 23:27.8 and Chris Devaney finished at 23:31.7. 

IUPUI will next compete at the Horizon League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Rochester, Mich.
