The partnership of
Krystal Grubb and
Gabrielle Ochalik defeated the Knights at doubles No. 1, 6-1, to earn the sole doubles win for the Jags. Bellarmine took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point.
At No. 2 singles, Grubb went into three sets and earned the win over Rose Pastoret (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) while
Samantha Hayward took the No. 3 match with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (6-4).
Meghan Bernard swept the No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0),
Sarah Lounsbury won at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-2) and
Marta Krakowski won the No. 6 singles match (6-1, 7-5).
"It's always tough to lose the doubles point, especially a close one," Bernard said. "But I think the team took the loss and used it to play really strong in singles. We all pulled together and played super well and tough."
Bernard improved to 2-1 this spring and has a team-high seven singles wins on the season. Both Hayward and Lounsbury collected their fifth singles wins of the young season.
With the outing, the Jags improve to 1-2 on the season. They will look to continue the success on Friday (Jan. 28) when they host SIUE at the West Indy Racquet Club starting at 1:00 PM.
