JAGUARS SUFFER UGLY DEFEAT AT MILWAUKEE, 89-54

Host Panthers shoot 62 percent from the floor in the win

MILWAUKEE - The IUPUI basketball team suffered an ugly road loss at Milwaukee on Saturday (Jan. 15) as the host Panthers shot an impressive 62 percent overall and cruised to an 89-54 win. The Panthers hit 13-of-25 three point attempts, including nine second half hoists to run away with the win.

Azariah Seay and Bakari LaStrap led IUPUI with nine points each and Mike DePersia closed with eight points, four boards and three assists in the loss. DeAndre Gholston had a game-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Panthers and Tafari Simms contributed 19 points off the bench.

Milwaukee (6-12, 4-5 HL) hung 51 points on the typically reliable IUPUI defense in the second half to coast to the win.

IUPUI (1-14, 0-6 HL) got off to a putrid shooting start, making just 1-of-13 field goal attempts to start the game before Chuks Isitua dropped in a right-handed hook at the 7:05 mark. With the IUPUI offense reeling, Milwaukee built a 21-7 lead. The hosts led by as many as 17 in the opening half before eventually taking a 38-25 lead into halftime.

Milwaukee proceeded to make threes on its first three possessions of the second half to extend its lead beyond 20. Defensively, the Jags had no answer for a Milwaukee attack that connected on 67 percent from the field and 64 percent from three-point range after intermission.

Nathan McClure finished with six points, all from the foul line, six boards and three steals. Jonah Carrasco had seven points, four boards and a career-high three steals as well.

IUPUI will step out of Horizon League play on Tuesday night (Jan. 18) to take on No. 16/15 Ohio State at Value City Arena at 7:00 p.m. That contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
