SCORING LULLS SEND JAGUARS TO ROAD LOSS AT GREEN BAY, 69-54

Senior Azariah Seay just misses a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds

GREEN BAY, Wisc. - IUPUI got an efficient 18 points from top scorer B.J. Maxwell and Azariah Seay just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine boards, but the Jaguars fell on the road at Green Bay on Thursday night (Jan. 13), 69-54. Donovan Ivory paced three Phoenix in double-digits with 19 points and Randy Tucker added 17 points and eight boards in the win.

Kamari McGee chipped in 12 points in the win.

IUPUI (1-13, 0-5 HL) got off to a hot start, hitting its first four three-point attempts of the game, but also suffered through some scoring droughts as Green Bay steadily seized control. IUPUI claimed an early 14-10 lead when Maxwell connected on his second trey of the game at the 14:10 mark, but the Jags would make just one bucket over the next nearly eight minutes as the hosts built a 22-16 advantage.

Nathan McClure briefly stopped the run with a layup, but Green Bay tallied six straight points to extend to a double-digit lead. The Phoenix led 34-26 at the break, aided in large part by a 14-0 free throw attempt disparity in the opening 20 minutes.

IUPUI clawed back within five in the opening stages of the second half when Jonah Carrasco swished a pair of free throws, but could get no closer. The teams traded buckets for a long stretch of the second half before an 11-2 Green Bay run was the knockout blow. McGee started the run with a jumper and Lucas Stieber added to it with a wing three.

Maxwell quelled the tide with a transition bucket off a Mike DePersia feed, but good fortune sided on the side of the Phoenix moments later. IUPUI was in prime position to force a shot clock violation when Ivory hoisted a desperation attempt from deep on the left wing. His shot glanced off the backboard and through to give Green Bay a 56-45 lead with 7:08 remaining. After IUPUI missed on the other end, Tucker drilled a three in front of his own bench, prompting an IUPUI timeout. However, the damage was done as IUPUI got no closer than 11 over the final six minutes.

IUPUI finished at 37.3 percent overall and 7-of-21 (33.3 percent) from three-point range. The Jaguars were also outrebounded by a 34-27 margin and saw Green Bay, which was last in the Horizon League in threes made and three point percentage, hit on 10-of-25 attempts from downtown. Ivory was 4-of-7 and Tucker connected on 3-of-7 attempts.

And while IUPUI cut down on its turnovers, committing just 11 miscues, Green Bay was opportunistic in converting them into 17 points.

McClure finished with eight points, four boards and three assists and played all 40 minutes while DePersia had a team-high five assists.

IUPUI will conclude the two-game trip at Milwaukee on Saturday (Jan. 15) at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
