CLEVELAND, Ohio - The IUPUI volleyball team will start a stretch of five straight road matches this week when the Jaguars play three on the road in the next six days in week two of the #HLVB schedule. The Jaguars will take on Cleveland State on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at 6:00 p.m. and then travel to Robert Morris on Saturday (Oct. 2) at 4:00 p.m.. That two-game trip will conclude on Sunday (Oct. 3) at Youngstown State at 2:00 p.m.. Tuesday's contest at CSU is slated to be aired on ESPN+.
IUPUI (2-12, 0-3 HL) is in dire need of some good vibes, having dropping nine straight since defeating Western Illinois back on Sept. 4. Head coach
Lindsey Froehlich's squad has been highly competitive, including winning the opening set against Green Bay this past Friday and playing UIC close last week before ultimately falling, 3-1.
The offense has been problematic as IUPUI is hitting just .105 on the season while foes are hitting .212. Defensively, IUPUI collects 14.9 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set. Recently, continuity has been troublesome as well as Froehlich has been forced to shuffle bodies with a collection of individuals sidelined. Only four Jaguars -
Emily Alan,
Briana Brown,
Millai Madison and
Rhiannon Schuenemann - have played all 14 matches this season.
Brown continues to pace the offense with 2.63 kills/set while
Allie Pogue puts down 2.38 per set.
Brooke Phillips continues to man the setter position with 7.78 assists/set and a team-high 21 service aces. Schuenemann, who has been the team's primary libero, averages 3.96 digs/set and Madison has a team-high 40.0 blocks.
There was a clear divide amongst the #HLVB standings during the season's opening week as six teams went undefeated and five went winless.
QUOTABLE
"We support each other regardless of the score. IUPUI volleyball is going to fight. If we're down, if we're up, we're just always going to have that fight and that grit and our teammates behind us," said Madison after a 3-0 loss to Milwaukee.
