JAGUARS FALL TO NORTHERN KENTUCKY IN OVERTIME, 1-0

NKU's Lindsey Meyer nets the game-winner in the 94th minute

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team dropped a home Horizon League contest to Northern Kentucky on Thursday night (Sept. 23) as NKU's Lindsey Meyer tallied the evening's only offense in the 94th minute. Both sides struggled to get shots on frame against the opposing defenses, but NKU broke the stalemate early in the first overtime period to capture the road win.

Ashton Kudlo made four saves in her second collegiate start while NKU's Mimi Stines collected four stops in the shutout.

"We struggle to score goals when we're unable to get in behind people," head coach Chris Johnson said. "And Northern Kentucky is a team, with their speed and athleticism, that just doesn't give up much in behind them. They do a good job of keeping you in front and that was the case tonight."

IUPUI (2-7-1, 1-2 HL) was limited to just 11 shot attempts and the bulk of those came from distance and the Jaguars struggled to find creases in the NKU (5-3-2, 3-0 HL) back line. Sophomore midfielder Leah Shumate had a restart go just high of target in the 65th minute and Grace Moore missed wide left on a long restart in the 77th minute. Both Maya Lacognato and Elizabeth Bueckers sought go-ahead goals late in regulation, but were unsuccessful in the closing minutes.

After being outshot 6-1 in the opening half, things opened up for both teams as they each had 10 second half shot attempts. Meyer's game-winner was her second score of the year and the only shot attempted in overtime. She beautifully angled a shot from outside the penalty area just inside the far post and off the outstretched hands of a diving Kudlo for the winner.

Bueckers had a team-high three shot attempts and both Jessica Jacobs and Shumate had two apiece. Defensively, Johnson continued to rely on the trio of Makenna Collins, Autumn Weeks and Moore along the back line as all three played the entire 94 minutes. Johnson shuffled bodies liberally at the other positions, getting strong play from Emma Antoine, Paige Waskom and Abbey Renner off the bench.

NKU was on the attack for much of the evening, attempting 17 shots, but rarely testing Kudlo. Meyer and Kaya Vogt had four shots apiece with Meyer putting two on frame.

IUPUI will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 26) when the Jaguars face off with Wright State in Dayton.
