INDIANAPOLIS - Three members of the IUPUI women's golf team earned All-Horizon League honors as announced the league office on Friday (Apr. 30).
Shelby Busker was voted the league's Freshman of the Year and second team all-league while
Amelie Svejda was voted to the first team by the league's coaches. In addition,
Kara Blair was voted second team all-league by the league's coaches. The trio helped IUPUI to a runner-up finish at the recent Horizon League Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.
Svejda earned all-league honors for the third time in her career and was a first team honoree for a second time. She closed the season with a team-best 74.4 scoring average and earned top-10 finishes in all five of her tournament entries. She was runner-up at the Horizon League Championships and earned All-Tournament Team honors with a 3-over 219 (73-70-76) while her second round, 2-under 70 was a season-best effort. She also collected a runner-up finish at NKU's The Julie with a 3-over 147 (76-71). Her 74.4 scoring average would rank as the fourth-best in program history, but was just shy of necessary rounds because of the abbreviated tournament schedule. Svejda defeated 93 percent of her opponents this past season and was IUPUI's low scorer in four of five tournaments. She intends on returning next season and ranks third in career stroke average (76.4) and tenth in career rounds played (76).Â
Busker was voted Freshman of the Year after a stellar rookie campaign saw her finish with a 76.3 scoring average and three top-10 finishes. She capped the year by tying for fourth at the Horizon League Championships, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Her three-day, 9-over 225 (75-73-77) was her season-best 54-hole score. Busker also collected top-10 finishes at NKU's The Julie and the Lady Jaguar Invitational. All total, she defeated nearly 80 percent of her opponents during her rookie campaign.Â
Blair earned her first career all-league ballot after posting a 76.7 scoring average this past season with two top-10 finishes. She tied for runner-up honors at NKU's The Julie with a 36-hole, career-best 147 (72-75) and tied for sixth at the Lady Jaguar Invitational with a 36-hole 151 (75-76). She fired a season-best round of 72 on two different occasions and had a season-best, 54-hole 230 (72-84-74) at the Nevel Meade Collegiate where she tied for 14th among the 71-player field. Blair defeated better than 60 percent of her opponents on the year.Â
