HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Jaguar offense went cold, scoring just two runs as IUPUI was swept in a doubleheader by Northern Kentucky on Sunday (April 25).
Tori Sivert had the best day at the plate for IUPUI, finished 3-for-6 over the two games, including her first-career home run.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY 7 – IUPUI 2
The Jags got down early and were not able to put together a comeback in the first game of the day against the Norse. A five-run bottom of the second put NKU on top as the Norse got to IUPUI starter
Bailey Johnson.
IUPUI began the third with a double from
Maicey Bedrick and after two outs,
Morgan Gilbert tripled to score Bedrick but IUPUI was able to just get one run on the board.
Down 5-1 in the sixth, Sivert connected on the second pitch she saw with a home run down the left field line to make the score 5-2.
Jennah Speth singled in the next at bat but was stranded at first.
A two-run home run for Northern Kentucky in the sixth pushed the lead to five and IUPUI went three-up, three-down to end the game in the seventh.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY 1 – IUPUI 0
In the second game of the day, both starters were in control as
Jennah Speth allowed just one run on five hits and picked up five strikeouts but IUPUI's starter was outdueled as Madisyn Eads shutout the Jags, allowing just four hits.
Sivert picked up half of IUPUI's hits while Gilbert and
Amber Pagan each added a hit of their own.
Jennah Speth drew both of IUPUI's walks on the day.
The Jags left runners on in each of the first two innings and looked like they might break through after Sivert doubled with one out in the third. A groundout moved her to third and Speth walked with two outs but
Kasie Keyes grounded out to end the inning.
Northern Kentucky put a runner on base in the second, third and fourth innings but Speth shut down the Norse in each frame to keep the scoreboard clean.
In the fifth, back-to-back one-out singles by Sivert and Gilbert put the Jags in business and a sac bunt by Speth moved the runners up 60 feet but a big strikeout for Eads ended the inning.
NKU finally broke through in the sixth with three-straight singles to get the game's first run on the board.
Down to its final inning, IUPUI was not able to get runner on base as the Jags dropped the second game of the day.
