JAGUARS TAKE DOWN MASTODONS, 7-4

IUPUI earned a 2-1 series win over Purdue Fort Wayne.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A big blast from Hailey Pop led IUPUI to a 7-4 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday (April 11). The win gave the Jags a 2-1 series win over the Mastodons.

With rain cancelling one of the games of Sunday's doubleheader, the series rested on the lone game of the day.

IUPUI got things going in the second after a one-out double from Maicey Bedrick. Tori Sivert and Pop walked to load the bases and the first run of the game came in after Rachael Gregory drew a bases-loaded walk. Two batters later, Lauren Youngblood singled to third to bring home Sivert.

In the third, Jennah Speth walked to start the inning and Bedrick singled with one out. After a strikeout, Pop connected on a full count pitch to left for a three-run home run to make the score 5-0.

Two more runs came in for the Jags in the sixth. Pop walked and moved to third on a double by Gregory to start the inning. A groundout by Jaida Speth scored Pop and Gregory scored on a single by Youngblood in the next at bat.

Purdue Fort Wayne got back in to the game with a three-run home run and a solo shot in the sixth but starter Lexi Lucas was able to get out of the jam with a fly out and strikeout to end the inning.

Jennah Speth relieved Lucas in the seventh and picked up her first save of the season allowing just a walk in the last frame of the game.

Both Youngblood and Bedrick finished the game with two hits, while Pop reached base three times, with two walks. Both Pop and Bedrick scored two runs for the Jags.

Lucas picked up the win, moving to 4-8 on the season, allowing just four hits and three walks over six innings.
