LOUISVILLE, Ky. – IUPUI was not able to overcome errors as the Jaguars lost games to Bellarmine and Dayton on Saturday (March 6).
Bellarmine 7 – IUPUI 5
IUPUI lost the first game of the day to Bellarmine 7-5 after costly errors allowed the Knights to take a lead the Jags could not overcome. In the bottom of the first, an error by the Jags with two outs allowed two runs to score.
The Jags were held off the board until the third when they took advantage of a Bellarmine miscue. After
Lauren Youngblood walked,
Ryleigh Marsh reached on an infield single. Both runners moved up on a ground out by
Jaida Speth. During the next at bat, an errant pickoff throw allowed Youngblood to score and two batters later,
Jordan Barnes drove home Marsh to knot up the game.
After Bellarmine took back the lead in the bottom of the inning, IUPUI responded in the fourth.
Hailey Pop walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Pop scored on a single up the middle by Youngblood.
Things unraveled for IUPUI in the bottom of the fourth after
Jennah Speth got the first two outs of the inning. An error on the next play kept the inning going and after a single, a double scored two runs to put the Knights back on top. On the next pitch, a home run doubled the lead to 7-3.
IUPUI's next six batters would be sat down and the game went to the last inning with IUPUI needing four runs.
Maicey Bedrick doubled to start the inning and walks by Youngblood and Marsh loaded the bases.
Jaida Speth hit a sacrifice fly for the first run of the inning and a ground out moved runners to second and third. With two outs,
Abbey Haas walked on three pitches to load the bases.
Kasie Keyes walked to bring home another run and Pop stepped to the plate with the tying run on second. Down 0-2 in the count, Pop popped up to short to end the comeback bid.
The Jags managed just four hits in the game but took advantage of seven walks by Bellarmine.
DAYTON 8 – IUPUI 0 F/6
In the night cap for IUPUI, the Jags struggled to get anything going on offense being shutout by Dayton and managing just one hit.
IUPUI's one hit on the night came in the top of the sixth as
Morgan Gilbert doubled to center with two outs but, down 6-0, any comeback bid was shut down as
Jaida Speth grounded out to the pitcher.
Dayton took advantage of the long ball early on as Abby Ehrenborg hit two-run home runs in both the first inning and third inning. Dayton also scored two runs in the fifth inning and ended the game with two runs in the sixth inning.

IUPUI will take on Dayton at 11 a.m. on Sunday (March 7) before playing Bellarmine at 3 p.m. to end the weekend.
