MUNCIE, Ind. - IUPUI had its two-match win streak snapped at the hands of in-state foe Ball State on Friday (March 5). The Jags were not able to stop a hot Ball State team, who has now won eight matches in a row as IUPUI fell to the Cardinals 6-1.
Sarah Lounsbury picked up the lone point on the night for IUPUI, winning her No. 3 singles match. It was Lounsbury's fourth singles win on the year and her third-straight.
In doubles play, Ball State earned the point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 and a 6-1 win at No. 3.
Krystal Grubb and
Gabrielle Ochalik fell in the No. 1 match in a tie break.
In singles play, Lounsbury continued her strong play of the early season, picking up a three set win, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8. Unfortunately for the Jags, that was all they would get. In the No. 5 match,
Samantha Hayward fell 6-4, 6-3 in a tight battle and
Marta Krakowski almost pushed her match to three sets at No. 6. Krakowski dropped her first set 6-2, but battled to a 7-5 loss in the second set.
IUPUI and Ball State will meet for a second match this weekend on Saturday (March 6) beginning at Noon.
