POGUE LEADS IUPUI'S OFFENSE IN LOSSES TO UIC

The Jags closed out their season against the Flames on Monday (March 22)

INDIANAPOLIS – Allie Pogue led IUPUI with 22 kills in the two matches against UIC to close out the season on Monday (March 22). The Jags season came to a close with two 3-0 losses to the Flames.

GAME 1: UIC 3 – IUPUI 0
Allie Pogue led the Jaguars with eight kills and Emily Alan and Maddie Haines each collected six in a three set loss to UIC in the first game of the double header. The offense was led by Darragh Dixon's 25 assists.

On defense, Rachel Funkhouser finished with a team-high 10 digs and Rhiannon Schuenemann followed with eight. Emily Alan led the Jags at the net with three blocks.

The Flames jumped out to an early led in set one and IUPUI was not able to get back in to the set. A 5-1 run by UIC made the score 16-7 and UIC ended the first set up 25-16.

In the second set, down 8-5, IUPUI tied up the set with a kill by Pogue, a block by the duo of Pogue and Madison and an ace by Dixon. That run was quickly ended with an 8-0 run by UIC as the Flames jumped ahead 16-8. Down 20-9 IUPUI's defense picked up three-straight points as Emily Alan took part in three blocks with one solo and two combining with Haines and Schuenemann.

After UIC earned set point and 24-15, the Jags tried to string a run together with Schuenemann at the service line. The run began with a kill by Pogue and two UIC errors made the score 24-18. A kill by Alan was followed by a kill from Pogue and another kill by Alan pulled IUPUI within three. Any chance for a comeback was extinguished as UIC picked up a kill to win the set 25-21.

IUPUI again fell behind early but kills from Madison, Pogue and Schuenemann were part of a 4-0 run to put the Jags up 6-5. After a kill by Alan and a UIC error, IUPUI took a 9-7 lead. The set went back-and-forth with IUPUI tying up the set at 13 on another kill by Pogue. After an IUPUI service error, UIC rattled off four-straight points to jump back ahead 17-13.

The two teams traded points with the score 20-17 until another 4-0 run by the Flames gave UIC match point. Three attack errors got the Jags back within four but a final kill ended the match.
GAME 2: UIC 3 – IUPUI 0
In the final game of the season for IUPUI, Allie Pogue again led IUPUI's offense, finishing with a match-high 14 kills. Rhiannon Schuenemann matched her career-high nine kills and hit an impressing .421 in the match. Schuenemann also led IUPUI's defense with 16 digs and finished with one block. Madeline Haines was third on the team with five kills and Millai Madison tallied four.

Rachel Funkhouser collected 10 digs for the third time in her last four matches to finish second on the squad.

The first set belonged to UIC early as the Flames used multiple runs to take a 19-6 lead and take the set 25-13.

After falling behind 8-3 in the second set, IUPUI clawed its way back in to the set. After an error, Emily Alan tallied a kill and a Schuenemann kill made the run 4-0. Another kill by Pogue and service ace by Schuenemann capped another 4-0 run by the Jags to go up 11-9. The teams went back-and-forth with the set becoming tied at 18 after a UIC service error. UIC went on a small run but the Jags to a kill by Pogue and an error by the Flames to pull back within one at 21-20. After a service error from IUPUI, the Flames scored the next three points to win the set 25-20.

IUPUI used a 3-0 run early in the third with kills by Madison and Pogue to pull within one at 9-8 and later used two kills from Schuenemann and one from Pogue to take a 15-14 lead. A service error from the Flames made the score 19-18 in favor of UIC but the Jags allowed UIC to score five of the next six points to earn match point. The Jags scored two points with kills by Alan and Schuenemann before the Flames closed out the match with a kill.
