ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The IUPUI women's basketball team began their regular season campaign with a hard-fought overtime loss to #11 Michigan, 67-62.
Rachel McLimore led the Jags with 21 points, nine of those points coming from behind the arc.
Macee Williams followed with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Anna Mortag added a career-high 10 points and five rebounds.
The Jags started off hot outscoring Michigan in the first quarter 15-14, with three three-pointers but the lead did not last long as the Wolverines stayed on top most of the game. Michigan scored 18 points in the second quarter compared to IUPUI's nine to take the lead.
With 19 points in the third quarter, IUPUI shot 50 percent and fought back to bring the lead within six at 49-43.
The Jags, down by seven with just over three minutes to play in the fourth quarter, went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 58 with a minute left to go. The IUPUI defense held the Wolverines scoreless to send the game to overtime but ultimately fell as Michigan outscored the Jaguars 9-4 in OT.
IUPUI finished the game at 36.5 percent from the floor and 37 percent (10-for-27) at the three-point line while holding Michigan to just 15 percent (3-for-20) beyond the arc. The Jags totaled 13 assists on 23 shots with 32 rebounds.
