INDIANAPOLIS - Coming off back-to-back home wins, the IUPUI volleyball team will cap its home season this weekend when the Jaguars host Northern Kentucky on Friday (Nov. 5) and Wright State on Saturday (Nov. 6) inside the Jungle. IUPUI will honor seniors
Shakana Norfleet and
Rhiannon Schuenemann this weekend over the course of the two days.
Tickets are available by contacting the IUPUI ticket office or will be on sale at the main entrance one hour prior to first serve.
On the court, IUPUI is coming off back-to-back victories, having defeated Youngstown State and Robert Morris by identical 3-1 scores last week. Freshman
Briana Brown fueled the attack, averaging 4.75 kills per set while hitting .442 in the two matches to earn #HLVB Player of the Week honors. She had 19 kills in both matches and hit an incredible .545 in the win over YSU.
That said, it was far from a one-person show as
Emily Alan had 12 kills and hit .417 against YSU and Maddie Haines put down 10 kills. Schuenemann collected 19 digs and
Brooke Phillips handed out 37 assists and had four of the team's 12 aces. The following day, Alan had 11 kills and hit .350 and Schuenemann collected 14 digs. Phillips continued her hot play with 45 assists and three aces in that victory.
It marked the first time IUPUI won back-to-back matches since Sept. 27-28, 2019.
In league play, Phillips ranks sixth in the league at 8.56 assists per set while Brown is eighth in the league with 3.43 kills per set. The Jags also have three players ranked among the league's top-10 in service aces in
Addie Evans (0.37/set), Phillips (0.36/set) and Schuenemann (0.35/set). Evans is ninth in the league in digs per set at 3.61.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY (15-7, 11-2 HL)
Northern Kentucky comes in having won 10 of its last 11 matches with seven of those wins coming in straight sets. Anna Brinkmann leads NKU at 3.71 kills per set and NKU comes in hitting .241 as a team on the year. Reilly Briggs puts down 3.04 kills per set and is hitting .294 on the year. The setting duo of Katy Yopko and Miranda Wucherer combine to deliver 11 assists per set. Defensively, Anna Burke leads the Norse with 4.60 digs per set and Abby Kanakry has a team-high 79.0 blocks.
SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE (18-7, 10-3 HL)
Wright State has won 10 of its last 11 matches and sits No. 3 in the Horizon League standings. Megan Alders leads the Raiders at 2.59 kills per set and their balanced attack also includes Sam Ott (2.44), Celia Powers (2.40) and Callie Martin (2.26). Lainey Stephenson is the team's primary setter at 9.59 assists per set. Jenna Story leads the defense at 5.68 digs per set and Nyssa Baker ranks atop the team with 102.0 blocks, including 12 solos.
