INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team enters this week looking to stop a three-game slide as the Jaguars will host #HLWSOC leader Milwaukee on Thursday (Oct. 7) before hitting the road to face Detroit Mercy on Sunday (Oct. 10). The Jaguars dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker at Oakland last week to extend the skid as the Golden Grizzlies tallied the winner in the 85th minute. Playing short-handed, IUPUI (2-9-1, 1-4 HL) got a goal just before halftime from center back
Autumn Weeks off a
Leah Shumate assist to knot the score at 1-1 at the break. However, after an evenly played half, Oakland scored on a corner kick in the closing minutes to stay undefeated in league play.
The Jaguars have yet to hit their stride this season as continuity on the field has been rare. The offense was clicking early and scored seven goals in the season's first two games, but has tallied just five times in nine games since. On the flip side, after yielding eight goals in the season's first three games, the Jags have allowed just 12 goals in the past eight games.
Senior
Elizabeth Bueckers has a team-high 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist) and
Maya Lacognato is next with six points (2 goals, 2 assists). However, Bueckers missed the game at Oakland, corresponding with
Sam Slimak's return from an injury that cost her eight games. Twenty-one different IUPUI players have started at least one game while Lacognato, Weeks and freshman
Makenna Collins are the only three to have started all 11 games. In goal,
AP Woodall has started nine of the team's 11 games and posted a 2.13 goals against average and 68 stops. Redshirt freshman
Ashton Kudlo was pressed into action during the league slate for two games as Woodall was sidelined.
