CHICAGO - Coming off its first win of the #HLVB season, the IUPUI volleyball team will set out on an arduous three-game road trip this week as they'll face three of the league's top teams in a four-day span. The Jaguars will take on UIC (10-10, 6-2) on Thursday, followed by a match at Milwaukee (15-6, 9-0) on Friday.
Head coach
Lindsey Froehlich's team will cap the three-game trip at Green Bay (10-11, 5-4) on Sunday before returning home. The Jaguars lost to all three teams in succession to open Horizon League play in late September.
However, the Jaguars have showed continual progress, punctuated by a 3-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne last Friday. IUPUI (3-18, 1-9) hit .278 as a team and saw
Emily Alan put down a career-high 12 kills on just 23 swings in the victory. Freshman
Briana Brown had a team-high 16 kills and
Maddie Haines sparked the attack with 11 kills of her own. Defensively,
Addie Evans had a team-high 15 digs and
Rhiannon Schuenemann collected 11 digs in the victory.
IUPUI's .278 attack percentage was a season-high while its 56 kills tied for its most in a four set match this season.
Brown continues to lead the IUPUI offense with 3.01 kills per set while
Brooke Phillips pilots the group at 8.32 assists per set. In league play, Brown has increased her output to 3.22 kills/set and Phillips is delivering 8.59 assists per set. Phillips also has a team-high 27 services aces and both Evans and Schuenemann have 25 each.
Defensively,
Millai Madison has a team-high 60.0 blocks and Schuenemann collects a team-high 3.37 digs per set.
SCOUTING UIC (10-10, 6-2 HL)
UIC is 6-2 in Horizon League play while its offense hits .245 against league foes. Paola Santiago averages 3.97 kills/set in league play while Martina Delucchi checks in at 3.00 kills/set. Sohila Wafeek averages 10.47 assists/set and has also delivered 11 aces. Defensively, Jaclyn Oblena has a team-high 3.63 digs/set in league play and Santiago is the team's top blocker at 15.0.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE (15-6, 9-0 HL)
Milwaukee has won nine straight Horizon League contests since closing its non-conference season with a loss to UCLA. In league play, the Panthers are hitting .297 and limiting foes to just .138. The Panthers boast three hitters with more than 3.5 kills/set in Ari Miller (4.13), Madi Malone (3.63) and Carmen Heilemann (3.56). Rylie Vaughn averages 11.59 assists per set. Defensively Miller has a team-high 24.0 blocks in league play and Jess Grabowski averages a team-high 4.13 digs/set.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY (10-11, 5-4 HL)
Green Bay enters this week having won three out of its last four matches with recent home sweeps of both Youngstown State and Robert Morris. Alexandra Zakutney averages a team-high 3.38 kills per set in league play and Calli Gentry checks in with a team-high 9.79 assists per set. Tiffany Paalman has a team-high 28.0 blocks and Iro Chounta collects a team-high 3.10 digs per set.
