JAGUARS FALL AT HOME TO MILWAUKEE, 4-1

Tommy Patacca tallies the IUPUI score in Saturday's defeat

INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee's Logan Farrington scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as the visiting Panthers roared past IUPUI at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 2), 4-1. IUPUI struck first on a Tommy Patacca score, but yielded two goals in each half in the defeat. Offensively, IUPUI had a season-high 16 shot attempts and 12 corner kick opportunities, but still struggled to find the finishing touches.

"Credit to Milwaukee today for equalizing the game and going ahead in the first half after conceding first," head coach Brian Barnett. "Further to that point, they defended well in the second half and iced the game as we committed more numbers forward to equalize. When we break down our performance, the two things that we will address is the failure to establish possession in the first half out of our delayed press and our failure to be truly dangerous in the final third with our goal scoring opportunities.

"The final thing that must be acknowledged is that our team worked and competed all over the field, in the second half in particular, to rescue the result, but scoring an additional goal or two was not in our fate for the day."

IUPUI (2-6-1, 1-4 HL) took an early lead when Patacca got on the receiving end of a Corey Goede long throw and nudged a shot just over the end line in the game's ninth minute. Milwaukee disputed that the ball was thrown directly in goal, but to no avail as IUPUI took the early advantage.

However, some great individual efforts helped Milwaukee seize the lead before halftime. In the 28th minute, Paolo Gratton hit a gorgeous volley inside the far post for an equalizer. Gratton received a Logan Farrington corner kick at the far far edge of the 18-yard box and headed the ball down into the chest of an IUPUI defender. Gratton got the rebound on the laces and drove home a strike.

In the 40th minute, Milwaukee went ahead when Farrington weaved his way through the IUPUI defense, leaving carnage behind him. Once free, he drove a shot past Lucas Morefield for a go-ahead score.

Milwaukee was better in the run of play in the first half, outshooting IUPUI 13-6 and earning six corner kicks to IUPUI's one.

IUPUI came out more aggressive at the start of the second half as Patacca was moved into the midfield and head coach Brian Barnett tinkered with the attacking group. Kirezi Freddy had two early attempts and Gianni Catenacci hit a volley wide of frame in the 59th minute. Once play settled down, Milwaukee took advantage and Hugo Espejo added insurance in the 77th minute. Farrington set his teammate free with a lead pass and the Milwaukee attacker snuck a shot past Morefield. Farrington capped his banner day with another score in the 80th minute, taking a pass from Gabe Anguil and eluding Morefield with a shot attempt.

IUPUI outshot Milwaukee 10-9 after intermission and earned 11 corner kicks, but put just five shots on target on the day. Freddy had a team-high four shot attempts and Patacca and Rayan Choukri had three each. Tylin Broaders had two attempts off the IUPUI bench, including a gorgeous bender in the 41st minute that Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Chiappa did well to punch just over the bar for a corner kick.

Morefield finished with four saves in the loss.

IUPUI will return to action on Tuesday night (Oct. 5) when the Jaguars face Belmont at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.
