IUPUI TO HOST GREEN BAY; TRAVEL TO ROBERT MORRIS

IUPUI (3-10-1, 2-5 HL) is coming off a 1-0 road win at Detroit Mercy

10/13/2021 4:51:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will look to keep its winning ways rolling this week when the Jaguars host Green Bay on Thursday (Oct. 14) and trek to Robert Morris for a Sunday (Oct. 17) showdown. Head coach Chris Johnson's team is coming off a 1-0 road win at Detroit Mercy as sophomore Leah Shumate powered the offense with her first career score and senior AP Woodall dialed up her first clean sheet of the campaign.

The Jags, knowing they need to be nearly flawless down the stretch to earn a spot in the Horizon League Tournament, took the first step in that direction with the 1-0 win. The defense allowed just nine shots and just one on frame in the victory at UDM. Shumate delivered the goods with a free kick in the 34th minute to account for the game's only offense.

This season, senior Elizabeth Bueckers fuels the attack with six of the team's 13 goals and a team-high 13 points. Junior Maya Lacognato has six points (2 goals, 2 assists) and both Shumate and Sam Slimak have two assists each. The defense has grown stronger through continuity as Autumn Weeks has moved to the center back spot and has played a team-high 1,103 minutes. At the outside spots, Makenna Collins and Maya Turner are second and third among field players in minutes played while Woodall has been her typical solid self between the pipes. Woodall has a 1.92 goals against average and 79 saves in her 11 starts.

Johnson has had 22 different players start at least one contest while only three - Collins, Lacognato and Weeks - have started all 13.

QUOTABLE
"It's always a great feeling to get the lead. We had a great effort by the whole team to keep it. It's awesome to come out with a win and we are aiming to keep the momentum going," Shumate said following the victory at Detroit Mercy.
