INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis fell in its home opener, 5-2 to the University of Indianapolis on Tuesday (Feb. 4). Sean Bailey had the best day for the Jags, picking up wins in both doubles and singles play.
IUPUI (1-5) jumped on the board first winning the doubles point. The Jags lost the first doubles match, 6-2 at No. 1 but Michael Koch and Reed Plunkett combined to win the No. 3 match 6-3. From there, Bailey and Ethan Mardanus-Budiono gave the Jags the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Things shifted in singles play as UIndy (3-0) won the first three singles matches completed. Nicholas Moody fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 before Koch was beaten 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5. Mardanus-Budiono losing 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 put UIndy one point away from winning the match.
Bailey earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 to keep the match alive but the Greyhounds closed out the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Alex Jochim at No. 1.

IUPUI will hit the road for a double header on Saturday as the Jags will take on Chicago State and Purdue in West Lafayette. The match with the Cougars will begin at 12 p.m. and IUPUI will take on the Boilermakers at 6 p.m.
