BIG WIN AT BALL STATE MOVES JAGS TO 2-0 ON THE SEASON

IUPUI cruised to 25 point win over the in-state foe as Macee Williams notched her 1,500th career point.

MUNCIE, Ind. – IUPUI women's basketball took care of Ball State with a 73-49 win on Monday night (Nov. 30). The Jags moved to 2-0 on the season with the win, thanks in part to a dominant performance by Macee Williams.

Williams finished the game with 28 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The senior notched her 1,500th-career point early in the first quarter as Williams scored 20 points in the first half alone.

Destiny Perkins reached double-figures for the second time this season as well, scoring 10 points and the Jags did a good job of spreading the ball as seven other Jaguars also got on the scoreboard. Natalie Andersen tallied nine points and Sydney Roule added six.

It was a close first quarter with IUPUI leading 19-15 after the first frame but the Jags took control of the game in the second and third quarters. To begin the second, IUPUI got eight points from Williams and buckets from Perkins, Anna Mortag and Rachel McLimore, to take a 33-15 lead off of a 14-0 run. IUPUI would keep Ball State at bay and Trinity Duckworth scored a layup to put IUPUI up 35-24 at the half.

The third quarter belonged to Andersen and Roule as the two would score all of their points during the quarter. Andersen got things going quickly with seven points in first four minutes and after Roule's first three with 5:59 left on the clock, IUPUI had pushed its lead to 47-30. Things would hold steady for the next few minutes until Duckworth hit a layup with under a minute left and Roule beat the buzzer with a three to increase the lead to 21.

The Jags answered a Ball State (0-2) basket to start the quarter with a hoop by McLimore and back-to-back baskets by Williams. Perkins added a three and the Jags saw their lead bloom to 28. Jaci Jones three with 30 seconds left to reach the final margin.

IUPUI shot 48.4% from the field, helped by Williams going 13-for-17 from the field. The Jags went 8-for-25 from deep but still struggled at the free throw line going just 5-for-11 (45.5%). IUPUI's defense held Ball State to just 33% shooting and the leading scorer for the Cardinals were Thelma Dis Agustsdottir and Ivet Subirats who each finished with 10.

IUPUI's next game is scheduled for Sunday (Dec. 6) when the Jags will travel to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. Tip time against the Irish is set for 2 p.m.
