INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's tennis began their season on Friday night (Jan. 17) falling to in-state foe Ball State, 7-0.

Gabrielle Ochalik was the lone Jaguar to earn a set win as the sophomore began her match at No. 1 singles with a 6-3 set win. Ball State tied the match with a 6-1 win in set two before winning the match with a 10-4 win in the third set.

Both Krystal Grubb (No. 2) and Christina Stankovic (No. 3) fell by the same score, dropping their singles match 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 4 singles match, Sarah Lounsbury dropped her first set 6-1 and the second set 6-2. Samantha Hayward lost 6-1, 6-3 in her No. 5 singles match and freshman Diya Matta lost 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, the team of Ochalik and Grubb fell 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. Lounsbury and Hayward fell 6-2 at No. 2 and Marta Krakowski and Ines Rivera lost 6-1.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday (Jan. 18), taking on another in-state opponent as IUPUI hosts Valparaiso at 2:30 p.m.
