JAGUARS TO HEAD TO YOUNGSTOWN STATE ON SATURDAY

IUPUI (6-3-1, 0-1 HL) seeks first #HLWSOC win of the season

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The IUPUI women's soccer team will return to Horizon League play on Saturday (Sept. 28) when the Jaguars travel to Northeast Ohio to face Youngstown State (2-7-1, 0-1 HL) for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at YSU's Farmers National Bank Field. 

MATCH INFO 
  • Saturday's match will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Eastern and there will be no broadcast of the contest. Live stats will be available right at kickoff. 
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 8-0 all-time against Youngstown State in a series that dates back to 1999. The Jags have outscored YSU 27-10 in the all-time series. 
  • IUPUI won last year's meeting in Indianapolis on Sept. 29, 2018 by a 2-0 score. Valentine Pursey netted the game-winner in the 60th minute and Denise Veldman added insurance in the 72nd minute. Elizabeth Bueckers, Jessica Flores and Bri Denny all contributed assists and Sophia Lipka recorded a shutout, making one save in net. 
  • IUPUI is 4-0 in the four meetings in Youngstown with decisions going to overtime in 2002 and 2007. 
  • The two meetings since IUPUI joined the Horizon League in 2017 have come by identical 2-0 scores. 
JAG SCRATCHES
  • Junior forward Valentine Pursey earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week award (Sept. 16) after contributing to four of the Jaguars' six goals in 3-1 wins over Belmont and Valparaiso. Pursey had two assists in the Jaguars' 3-1 win over Belmont and followed with two goals in the win at Valpo, including the game-winner. It was her fourth career multi-goal game as she moved her career totals to 21 goals and 11 game-winners. 
  • Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 9), recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career.
  • For the season, Woodall has allowed just two goals in 470 minutes, good for a 0.38 goals against average. 
  • The win at Valparaiso was the 200th of the career of head coach Chris Johnson. Johnson has won 119 matches on the Jaguars' sidelines and collected 81 wins at UIndy from 1994-2002. Johnson is the program's all-time leader in wins (120) and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017). 
  • IUPUI is 6-3-1 on the season, having blanked five opponents this year. The Jags have shutout Toledo, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Evansville this year and yielded just 10 goals in 10 games.
  • IUPUI is 3-0 this season against Missouri Valley Conference foes with road wins at SIU, Valpo and Evansville.  
  • Pursey leads the IUPUI attack with four goals, 10 points and is tied with Bueckers for the team lead with two game-winners. Freshman Maya Lacognato and Bueckers have three goals each with Bueckers having scored three times in the past four games. Pursey, Miranda Ricks and Megan Wurth are tied with a team-high two assists.  
  • Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 21 career goals, 11 of which have been game-winners. 
  • The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
  • Senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka registered her 18th career shutout in the season opening win over Toledo, putting her three shy of tying IUPUI Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's all-time record of 21. 
  • Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 870 minutes in the defensive third this season, 100 more than Pursey's 765, which ranks second on the team. McNally has played 94 percent of the team's minutes so far this season.
  • The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
  • Lipka was the 2017 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and is on pace to break the program's all-time record in shutouts. 
  • IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago. 
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
  • YSU is 2-7-1 on the season and 0-1 in Horizon League play, having opened with a 1-0 double overtime road loss at Oakland. For the year, YSU has been outscored 24-8 and outshot 211-83. 
  • Marcella Sizer leads the squad with four goals and nine points while four others have one goal. Regan Lavigna has a team-high two assists. 
  • Kate McEachern has a 2.16 goals against average in her seven appearances in goal while Zeeyana Jivraj has a 2.67 GAA in her three appearances. McEachern has YSU's lone shutout of the season, having blanked Eastern Michigan.
