INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI volleyball will begin Horizon League play playing its first home match since August 31. The Jags will play Cleveland State on Friday (Sept. 27) and Oakland on Saturday (Sept. 28). The match against the Vikings will begin at 6 p.m. and the match against the Golden Grizzlies will start at 4 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on line with Andrew Kappes on the call.
IUPUI (4-9) will be looking to break a five-match losing streak when the Jags take on Cleveland State on Friday night. The Jags will need to get its offense going to try to break the streak as IUPUI has hit .103 or worse in each of their last four matches.
JAG SCRATCHES
- The Jaguars dropped their Horizon League opener last season but had won four-straight conference openers before the loss.
- IUPUI's offense is struggling as the Jaguars have not hit over. 200 for a match since the second match of the season when IUPUI hit .234 against Murray State. Over the last four matches, IUPUI has not hit above .103 and has hit less than .090 in three matches.
- For the season IUPUI is hitting .136 as a team and is averaging just 10.98 kills per set.
- Haley Hoffman leads the team with a .232 hitting percentage and is averaging 1.53 kills per set.
- McKayla Wright is tops on the squad with 3.36 kills per set and is hitting .216.
- Hannah Oehlberg is second on the team with 2.76 kills per set and also second on the team with 3.03 digs per set.
- Oehlberg has six double-doubles on the year to lead the team and had four-straight double-doubles before IUPUI's last match against Auburn. Oehlberg has double-digit digs in eight of her 10 matches, including her last five.
- Junior Rebecca Schlechte is guiding the offense with 7.29 assists per set. Freshman Regan Trueblood is second on the team with 3.43 assists per set.
- On defense, Rachel Hickey is the top digger on the team with 4.38 digs per set.
- Hoffman leads IUPUI's net defense with 1.12 blocks per set. Hoffman's 286 total career blocks is now sixth in school history, just two behind former Jag Kori Waelbroeck.
- Freshman Corrissa Remter is second at the net for IUPUI with 0.96 blocks per set.
INSIDE THE SERIES
vs Cleveland State – IUPUI is 1-6 all-time against Cleveland State but the Jags did beat the Vikings in the last meeting, a five-set win. IUPUI had not played a five-set match against Cleveland State before the last meeting.
vs Oakland – The Jags hold a 17-10 all-time lead over Oakland. Last season IUPUI took both matches against the Golden Grizzlies, both 3-1 wins. IUPUI and Oakland have split the four meetings the two teams have had in the Horizon League.
SCOUTING REPORT
Cleveland State – The Vikings come in to league play with a 4-7 record and have won their last two matches with wins over Niagara and Kent State. Trinniti Hall leads Cleveland State on offense and is on a tear with 3.50 kills per set and is hitting .299, while also leading the team with 1.25 blocks per set. Hannah Greene is second on the team with 3.25 kills preset. Christina Grecol is guiding the offense at over 10 assists per set.
On defense, Cleveland State is averaging 17.15 digs per set, led by Lindsey Tout with 4.43 per set.
Oakland – The Golden Grizzlies are 7-5 with wins against Campbell and UMBC in their last two matches. Oakland will face off against Wright State on Friday (Sept. 27) before taking on the Jags on Saturday.
Oakland is hitting .208 as a team led by Jamie Walling who is hitting .318 and averaging 3.38 kills per set. Teammate Taylor Dellinger is leading the team with 3.43 kills per set.
Megan Hobler is leading the team with 1.30 blocks per set and Oakland is averaging 2.45 blocks per set as a team. Lindsay Wightman is leading the squad with 4.46 digs per set.
