JAGS SWEPT BY AUBURN TO CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

IUPUI dropped its fifth-straight match with a straight-set loss to Auburn on Saturday afternoon.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – IUPUI volleyball finished up play over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Auburn on Saturday. The Jags (4-9) were led on offense by a returning Haley Hoffman, who finished with nine kills.

Maddie Dean was second on the team with five kills and led the team with three blocks, while also adding five digs. Hannah Oehlberg and Kaitlyn Johnson each added four kills. The four kills meant Oehlberg's double-double streak ended at four matches.

The Jaguars only managed to hit .089, committing 18 team errors. The defense allowed the Tigers to hit .278 for the match, as Oehlberg was the only Jaguar with double-digit digs, finishing with 11. Rachel Hickey, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, finished second on the squad with seven digs, breaking a nine-match streak of reaching ten digs.

Early in the first set, with the score tied at six, IUPUI took advantage of four-straight errors and a kill by Johnson to take an 11-6 lead. Auburn awoke after the run and scored 10 of the next 11 points to go up 16-12. The Jags would twice get back within two but would never get any closer as Auburn took set one 25-19.

An early 5-0 run in set two put Auburn up 12-7 and the Tigers scored four of the next five to take a commanding 16-8 lead. The Jags did not help themselves in set two finishing with six errors and six kills as Auburn took a 2-0 match lead, winning the second set 25-13.

The Jaguars were forced to play catch-up again in the third set falling behind 10-5 early on. A 4-0 run with kills by Dean and Corrissa Remter cut Auburn's lead to one and after an Auburn point an error by the Tigers and a kill by Hoffman tied the set at 17. Auburn responded with three-straight points but the Jags cut the lead to 21-19 after a service error. That would be the closest the Jags would get as Auburn rattled off the next four points to end the match.

Next up for IUPUI is the conference opener as the Jags will play host to Cleveland State on Friday, September 27.  The match will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jungle.
