INDIANAPOLIS - Winners of four of their past five matches, the IUPUI women's soccer team (5-2-1) will open Horizon League play this week when they host Northern Kentucky on Friday (Sept. 20) at 11:00 a.m. at Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars will cap the weekend at Evansville on Sunday (Sept. 22) with a 2:00 p.m. Eastern kickoff. 

MATCH INFO 
  • Friday's match will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw will be on the call. In addition, live stats will be available at kickoff. 
  • Admission is just $5 for ages 13-and-up and just $2 for youth, ages 3-12. IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card and parking is FREE during home events in lots 59, 63, 80 and 86. 
  • IUPUI will be hosting nearly 1,000 elementary aged students at Friday's game as an extension of the popular NCAA 'Readers Become Leaders' program, that began with the basketball program two seasons ago.  
  • Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and live stats will begin at kickoff.   
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 1-2-1 all-time against Northern Kentucky with the lone win coming in 2017 in Indianapolis by a 3-2 score. NKU won last year's meeting, 1-0 in Kentucky. 
  • IUPUI is 5-4-1 all-tie against Evansville and has won the last three contests in the series by identical 1-0 scores. Last year's 1-0 victory came in Indianapolis on Sept. 9, 2018. IUPUI is 2-3 in the five meetings in Evansville.   
JAG SCRATCHES
  • Junior forward Valentine Pursey is coming off a Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week award (Sept. 16) after contributing to four of the Jaguars' six goals in 3-1 wins over Belmont and Valparaiso. Pursey had two assists in the Jaguars' 3-1 win over Belmont and followed with two goals in the win at Valpo, including the game-winner. It was her fourth career multi-goal game as she moved her career totals to 21 goals and 11 game-winners. 
  • Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career.
  • The win at Valparaiso was the 200th of the career of head coach Chris Johnson. Johnson has won 119 matches on the Jaguars' sidelines and collected 81 wins at UIndy from 1994-2002. Johnson is the program's all-time leader in wins (119) and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017). 
  • IUPUI is 5-2-1 on the season, having blanked four opponents this year. The Jags have shutout Toledo, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky this year and yielded just eight goals in eight games. 
  • Pursey leads the IUPUI attack with four goals, 10 points and two game-winners. Freshman Maya Lacognato has three scores and sophomore Elizabeth Bueckers has tallied twice. Pursey, Miranda Ricks and Megan Wurth are tied with a team-high two assists.  
  • Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 21 career goals, 11 of which have been game-winners. 
  • The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
  • Senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka registered her 18th career shutout in the season opening win over Toledo, putting her three shy of tying IUPUI Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's all-time record of 21. 
  • Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 704 minutes in the defensive third this season, nearly 100 more than Pursey's 607, which ranks second on the team. McNally has played 94 percent of the team's minutes so far this season.
  • The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
  • Lipka was the 2017 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and is on pace to break the program's all-time record in shutouts. 
  • IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago. 
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
  • NKU is 3-4 to start the season and 2-2 away from home with road wins at Lipscomb (4-0) and Eastern Kentucky (3-1). 
  • Shawna Zaken leads the Norse with five goals and 11 points and has two of the team's three game-winners. 
  • Kailey Ivins has a team-high four assists and Hannah Fischer has three assists. 
  • Mimi Stines has played the majority of the team's minutes in goal, netting a 1.44 goals against average and 45 saves in her seven starts. She owns an .818 save percentage and has faced 123 shots for the year. 
SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
  • Evansville is 1-5-1 so far this season with the lone victory coming on the road at Tennessee Tech (2-0) on Sept. 13. 
  • Emily Ormson and Emily Wolak each have two goals and three different Purple Aces have one assist each. Ormson has fired a team-high 12 shots, putting nine on frame. 
  • Michaela Till has been the team's primary starter, recording a 2.58 goals against average and 45 saves in her seven starts. She has a .714 save percentage and a shutout. 
  • Evansville will open the weekend against Mercer on Friday night (Sept. 20) at 7:00 p.m. at McCutchan Stadium. 
UP NEXT
  • IUPUI will return to Horizon League play next weekend when the Jaguars travel to Youngstown State on Saturday (Sept. 28) at 1:00 p.m..
