TREVINO HITS TWO HOME RUNS AS IUPUI BEATS CLEVELAND STATE 7-1

IUPUI took advantage of three Cleveland State errors as IUPUI won the series against the Vikings.

CLEVELAND – IUPUI catcher Sabrina Trevino blasted two home runs and IUPUI took advantage of three Cleveland State errors as the Jags took game three against the Vikings by a score of 7-1.

After Cleveland State (11-28, 4-11 HL) got on the board first with a lead-off home run in the first inning, IUPUI (16-33, 10-9 HL) took advantage of two Viking errors in the second to strike back. Jaida Speth reached on an error with one out and after a single by Haley Ginger, a groundout put two outs on the board. Emily Berrisford walked to load the bases and Delainey Turner doubled down the right field line to score Speth and Ginger. McKenzie Loge stepped to the plate and another error, this one by the second baseman, scored both Berrisford and Turner to put IUPUI up 4-1.

The Jags tacked on another run in the third with a one-out solo home run by Sabrina Trevino, pushing the lead to 5-1. The junior catcher was at it again in the top of the seventh, hitting her second home run of the game, this one with a runner on as IUPUI went up 7-1. It was the first time this season that a Jaguar has hit two home runs in a game and the first time Trevino has hit two home runs in a game in her career.

The last time an IUPUI player hit two home runs in a game was exactly one year ago when Mandy Dallas hit two against Oakland on April 21, 2018.

After picking up a loss in her last three outings, Lexi Lucas (10-15) earned her 10th win of the season with a complete game outing, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run. Lucas struck out three and only walked one batter. The freshman allowed just two batters to reach second base all afternoon.

Trevino, who went 2-for-4 was joined by Dallas who also collected two hits, going 2-for-3 on the day.

With the win, IUPUI matched its win total from last season (16) and its conference win total (10). The Jags have four more games left on the schedule, including three more league games.
