SOUTH BEND, Ind. – IUPUI was not able to muster anything on offense, falling to Notre Dame 8-0 in six innings on Tuesday (April 2). The Jags were held to just one by the Irish, tied for a season low.
IUPUI (9-24) did not pick up its first hit until
Jaida Speth doubled with one out to right center field. After a foul out,
Delainey Turner reached on an error by Notre Dame's pitcher, moving Speth to third and bringing the tying run to the plate. With
Haley Ginger at the plate, a fly out to left field ended the Jags' best threat of the afternoon.
Notre Dame extended its lead in the bottom half of the inning against IUPUI starter
Amanda Melzoni. A single and two walks loaded the bases and another single brought home the first run of the inning and chased Melzoni from the game.
Dezirae Leonard came in to the contest and issued a four-pitch walk to bring home another and the Irish added one more after a fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the sixth, another sacrifice fly brought home Notre Dame's seventh run. With runners on the corners, the Irish sent the runner at first and
Sabrina Trevino's throw went in to center field, bringing home the winning run.
IUPUI struggled against Notre Dame starter Payton Tidd, who threw five innings of shutout ball and struck out six Jaguars. Speth was the only Jaguar to reach second base for IUPUI in the loss.
The Jaguars will be back in action at home on Wednesday (April 2) with a game against Butler at 5 p.m.
