DEKALB, Ill. – IUPUI dropped a close match with Northern Illinois, 3-4 on Saturday (Mar. 9), dropping five of the seven singles matches against the Huskies.

IUPUI got things started out strong in doubles play with Christina Stankovic and Mariella Pessina winning the No. 2 match 6-1. That was quickly followed by a win by Meghan Bernard and Samantha Hayward winning 6-3 in the No. 3 match to earn the doubles point.

In singles play, Stankovic earned the first win of the day for Jags in the No. 1 match winning after her opponent retired due to injury with Stankovic winning the first set 6-4. NIU earned its first point with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 match but IUPUI pulled within a point of the match win with Bernard winning 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.

From there, Northern Illinois tied up the match with wins in the No. 4 match (6-3, 6-3) and No. 2 match (7-6 (7-3), 7-5).

It came down to the No. 5 match which was the only match to go five sets. Krystal Grubb won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second 4-6. In the final set, Grubb came up just short, falling 5-7 as the Huskies took the match.
