INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's tennis split two matches on Friday (Mar. 22), beating Marian to begin the day but falling in its Horizon League opener against Oakland at night.
IUPUI 4 – Marian 0
IUPUI made quick work of the Knights, beginning with two wins in doubles play.
Krystal Grubb and
Gabrielle Ochalik won the No. 1 match 6-1 and
Meghan Bernard and
Mariella Pessina teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2
Bernard gave IUPUI its second point of the night with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5. In the No. 4 singles match, Grubb put the Jags one point away from the match win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Christina Stankovic closed out the match, winning her No. 1 match 6-2, 6-2.
Oakland 5 – IUPUI 2
After taking down Marian, IUPUI looked for its first Horizon League win as they played host to the Oakland but the Golden Grizzles had other plans, knocking off the Jags 5-2.
Oakland took all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the contest.
After an Oakland win at No. 2, Pessina put the Jags on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles match. It was not to be for the Jags as Oakland earned wins at No. 6 and No. 1 to close out the match. The other Jaguar point came from
Sarah Lounsbury, who won her No. 3 match in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.
IUPUI will continue conference play hosting Detroit Mercy on Sunday (Mar. 24) beginning at 9 a.m.
