HILTON HEAD, S.C. – IUPUI men's tennis started its spring break on a high note with two wins in the PTR Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head on Sunday (Mar. 10). The Jags beat NC Central to start the day and beat La Salle in the afternoon match.
IUPUI 4 – NC Central 3
IUPUI picked up the first win in doubles play with
Sean Bailey and
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono winning the No. 3 match 6-1. After dropping the No. 2 match 6-1,
Alex Jochim and
Colton Morehart won the No. 1 match pulling out a 7-6 (7-5) win to win the Jags the doubles point.
To start singles play,
Bradley Luetschwager won his No. 5 match 6-0, 6-2.
Eric Hollingsworth put the Jags one point away from a match win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6. North Carolina Central pulled back in to the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 3 but
Sean Bailey picked up a win at No. 2 by default in the third set to give the Jags the match.
IUPUI 5 – La Salle 2
In the second match of the day, IUPUI cruised in the doubles play, winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Jochim and Morehart won 6-2 and Bailey and Mardanus-Budiono won the No. 3 match by the same score. Luetschwager and
Kyle Whittaker had to play an extra game to win their No. 2 match, 6-3.
In singles play, the top of the lineup for the Jags saw the most success with Jochim winning at No. 1 6-2, 7-5. He was followed by Bailey winning 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 2 and Morehart winning 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3. The other Jaguar singles win was Hollingsworth winning the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-2.
