INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's tennis dropped its home opener 5-2 to the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday (Feb. 6).

The Jags (1-3) saw success at the bottom of their lineup with the team of Mariella Pessina and Meghan Bernard teaming up for a 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot. In singles play, both Pessina and Bernard continued their strong play, earning IUPUI's two points.

Pessina took her No. 5 match coming back after losing the first set 3-6. Pessina tied the match with a 6-4 win in set two and won the match, taking set three 10-3. Bernard had an easier time in her No. 6 singles match with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Bernard improved her record to a team best 3-1 singles record and has won two-straight matches.

IUPUI will hit the road for its next match on Friday (Feb. 8) against Cincinnati, before coming back home to face off against Dayton on Saturday (Feb. 9) at 3:30 p.m.
