MEN'S TENNIS WINS THRILLER OVER DAYTON, 4-3

IUPUI won two three-set matches and a doubles match in a tie break to remain perfect at home.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis remained perfect at home, moving to 5-0 at the West Indy Racquet Club this season, after a thrilling 4-3 win over Dayton on Friday (Feb. 22).

The match with the Flyers featured three three-set singles matches and a doubles match that went to a tie break. The win by the Jags give IUPUI seven wins this season, match the season totals from each of the last two years.

IUPUI earned the first win of the night as the team of Ethan Mardanus-Budiono and Sean Bailey continued their strong play together (5-1 this season), winning the No. 3 match 6-2. After dropping the No. 1 match, 7-5, IUPUI earned the doubles point with a 7-6 (11-9) win by the duo of Bradley Luetschwager and Kyle Whittaker at No. 2. That duo is a perfect 5-0 on the season at No. 2 doubles.

Singles play started with the Jags earning their second point as Luetschwager cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 but Dayton earned a point with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Alex Jochim at No. 1 to make it 2-1.

Dayton tied up the match at two as Mardanus-Budiono lost 7-6, 7-5 at No. 3.  The Jags pulled within one point of the match win as Eric Hollingsworth won his No. 6 match 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Hollingsworth has now won four-straight singles matches.

Again the Flyers tied up the match with a win at No. 3 over Colton Morehart, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. The match came down to the final contest at No. 2 and Bailey came out victorious in a match that featured two tiebreaks, both won by the sophomore. After winning the first set 7-6, Bailey dropped the second 4-6, but came back and won the third 7-6 to give the Jags the win.

IUPUI's next match will come on Friday (March 1) as the Jags will play host to Xavier.
