CHICAGO, Ill. – IUPUI men's tennis improved to 6-3 on the season after taking down Chicago State, 5-2 on Friday night (Feb. 15). The 6-3 start is the best start in program history.
The Jags dropped the first match in the double competition but came back with matching 6-4 wins by
Bradley Luetschwager and
Kyle Whittaker at No. 2 and
Sean Bailey and
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono at No. 3 to earn the doubles point. Both of those teams are now 4-0 on the season in doubles play.
To begin singles play, Mardanus-Budiono won his sixth-straight singles match, winning 7-6, 6-4.
Eric Hollingsworth's 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 6 put the Jags one point away from the match win. Needing just one more win, Luetschwager closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5, improving to 3-1 at the No. 5 spot.
Alex Jochim picked up the last point for IUPUI on the night, winning his No. 1 match in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
