WILLIAMS' CAREER-HIGH LEADS JAGS IN BLOWOUT WIN AT CLEVELAND STATE

The junior finished with a career-high 33 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.

CLEVELAND – IUPUI earned its first road win of the season in a big way, with a 78-53 win over Cleveland State on Monday (Dec. 30). Macee Williams scored a career-high 33 points in the win as the Jags even their Horizon League record.

Williams was a dominant force for IUPUI (7-6, 1-1 Horizon) as the junior scored her 33 points on 14-of-22 shooting and pulled down 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. As the Jags began to pull away in the third quarter, it was all Williams as she scored IUPUI's first 11 points of the second half. Williams was especially dominant in the second half, scoring 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field.

Four other Jaguars finished in double-figures with Morgan Allen adding 13 and both Sydney Roule and Holly Hoopingarner scoring 10.

"This was an extremely important game for our team, bouncing back after a tough loss the other night," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "The ladies did a great job of getting the ball inside to Macee and Mo."

IUPUI used solid ball movement to beat the Vikings' zone defense, finishing the game with 18 assists on 27 made baskets. Katelyn O'Reilly dished out a career-high seven assists and Hoopingarner finished the night with six helpers.

The Jags also kept good care of the ball, committing just 10 turnovers, a season-low.

"We played great defense and took care of the basketball," said Parkinson. "I though this was the best game of Holly's career."

With the Jags up 17 to start the fourth quarter, Williams again took control. The Veedersburg, Ind., native score six of IUPUI's first seven points and the Jags used a 7-0 run to push the lead to 24. Allen then finished the game with a personal 6-0 run to give IUPUI its largest lead of 28.

The Jags used their height advantage over Cleveland State (11-2. 1-1 Horizon), ending the Vikings 11-game winning streak with a overwhelming performance inside. IUPUI ended the game plus-10 in rebounds and pulled down 12 on the offensive end, led by Williams with six. The Jags tallied 40 points in the paint and 11 second chance points.

After struggling from the free throw line against Youngstown State, IUPUI improved against the Vikings, going 20-for-27 from the stripe.

IUPUI's defense made things difficult for Mariah Miller, the league's leading scorer coming in to the game. Miller finished the game with just seven points on 3-for-11 shooting.

The Jags got started quickly out of the gates, taking a 10-2 lead on a 7-0 run that featured four points from Hoopingarner. Cleveland State cut the lead to six multiple times but with 2:34 remaining in the period, Mogan Allen hit a layup, followed by another Hoopingarner layup after a block by Roule. Roule then capped the run with her second three of the quarter to give IUPUI its largest lead of the first 10 minutes at 13.

Cleveland State got the score back to single digits early in the second before the Jags used another big run, this time fueled by Williams. Williams hit two layups, followed by another three from Roule. After Allen split two free throws, Williams added her sixth point of the run and the Jags were up 35-16. The quarter ended for IUPUI with Rachel McLimore hitting a three and Williams hitting a jumper as the Jags went in to the half up 18.
