ROCHESTER, Mich. – IUPUI volleyball will finish out the 2019 season on the road with matches over the weekend at Oakland and Cleveland State. The Jags will take on the Golden Grizzlies on Friday (Nov. 15) at 6 p.m. and will match up against the Vikings in the season finale on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 4 p.m. The match against Cleveland State will be streamed on ESPN3.
IUPUI (7-20, 3-11 Horizon) broke a 10-match losing streak with a five-set win over Youngstown State on Wednesday (Nov. 6). The Jags then fell to Green Bay in their last match, dropping the match against the Phoenix in three sets to close out the home schedule.
JAG SCRATCHES
- Senior Kaitlyn Johnson is on a tear recently having finished the last four matches and five of the last six with double-digit kills. Against Green Bay, Johnson matched her career-high with 13 kills, a number she reached against UIC four matches ago.
- Senior McKayla Wright continues to lead the team with 2.77 kills per set and has 208 kills on the season.
- Haley Hoffman is leading the IUPUI offense with a .307 hitting percentage on the season and is hitting .345 during conference play. Both of those numbers lead the Horizon League.
- Hoffman is also second during conference play and third on the whole season in blocks per set. Hoffman leads the team for the season with 1.18 blocks per set.
- Hoffman has 28 solo blocks on the season. That number is tied for the single season record in school history.
- Rachel Hickey (3.93) and Rhiannon Schuenemann (3.69) are the top two back line defenders for the Jaguars in digs per set. Hickey leads the team with 377 digs on the year.
- Two Jaguars are on the verge of hitting the 200-kill mark this season. Junior Maddie Dean has 193 kills and freshman Allie Pogue is sitting at 192 kills.
LAST MATCH
vs Oakland (14-12, 7-7 Horizon)
- IUPUI swept the Golden Grizzlies in the first match of the season, the second Horizon League match for the Jags, back on Sept. 28.
- McKayla Wright finished the match with 11 kills and Corrissa Remter was second on the team with nine kills.
- IUPUI finished the match with 52 digs and 14 blocks, holding Oakland to a .044 hitting percentage. The most kills on the team for the Grizzlies was eight by Jamie Walling.
- Haley Hoffman and Corrissa Remter each finished with seven blocks.
vs Cleveland State (7-18, 3-11 Horizon)
- After falling behind 2-1, IUPUI earned a five-set win, winning set four 25-21 and set five 15-10 to open up Horizon League play with a win over the Vikings.
- The Jaguar offense was extremely balanced with five players finished with at least eight kills. Hoffman finished the match with a game-high 13 kills on a .333 hitting clip. Wright was second on the team with 11 and Dean and Pogue each had nine. Johnson finished with match with eight kills.
- The offense was guided by both Regan Trueblood and Rebecca Schlechte. Trueblood finished the match with a team-high 24 assists and Schlechte added 20.
- The Jags were stellar at the net, finishing with 15 blocks and Hoffman had 10 blocks with two solo stuffs.
- Hickey led the defense with 18 digs and Wright tallied a double-double with 15 digs.
