ALLEN'S CAREER-HIGH, MCLIMORE'S HEROICS, LEADS IUPUI PAST SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

IUPUI beat Southern Illinois 81-78 after a three-point play by Rachel McLimore with 0.4 seconds left on the clock.

INDIANAPOLIS – Rachel McLimore's three-point play with 0.4 seconds left lifted IUPUI over Southern Illinois 81-78 on Tuesday (Nov. 12). The Jags also got a career-high from Morgan Allen as four Jaguars finished the night in double figures.

Leading up to McLimore's heroics, IUPUI (2-0) had pushed the lead to four with 1:33 left in the game after a layup by Macee Williams. Southern Illinois (1-1) cut the lead in half with a jumper by Makenzie Silvey, who led the team with 17 points. Both teams missed baskets in their next possessions with IUPUI earning possession with six seconds left.

As the Jags were trying to inbound the ball, Williams was called for an offensive foul, fouling out of the game and giving the Salukis the ball back. SIU's Kristen Nelson hit a jumper with one second left to tie the game. The Jags called a timeout, moving the ball to the frontcourt. Agatha Beier inbounded the ball to McLimore who established position in the post. A quick move got McLimore around her defender and got the jumper to go while being fouled. After hitting the free throw, Southern Illinois' inbounds pass was knocked away to give the Jags the win.

"I knew it was coming to me," said McLimore. "Once I made the move and shot it I felt pretty good about it but you never know because I missed a couple of layups earlier so it was just good to see it go in."

The win would not have been possible had it not been for the best game in the career of Allen. The junior finished with a career-high 24 points, going 9-for-12 from the floor and hitting all six free throws. Allen also pulled down six rebounds, tied for the team-high. It was the first time that an IUPUI player had reached 20 points since Williams scored 22 against Oakland on Jan. 13.

"[Allen] was huge," said McLimore. "She won us the game. She has been working really hard in the offseason and it was good to see all of her hard work pay off."

"I think you look at Mo's offseason and she has been the most improved player on the team," said Parkinson. "She has been sealing really well in practice and our players did a great job of getting her the ball."

McLimore was second on the team with 18 points, scoring 18 for the second-straight game. Both Holly Hoopingarner and Destiny Perkins scored 12 in the backcourt for the Jags. Williams dealt with foul trouble the whole game, playing just 17 minutes, scoring five points and pulling down six rebounds.

The Jags shot 56.6 percent from the field and again had a stellar night at the free throw line, going 18-for-22. McLimore matched Allen at the line, going 6-for-6.

IUPUI started the game off strong, taking a 12-6 lead after four points by Allen and a jumper by Hoopingarner. Later in the quarter, back-to-back layups by Allen pushed the IUPUI lead up to 10 and the Jags took a seven-point lead in to the second quarter.

The Jags had an eight point lead late in the second but a 7-0 run by SIU cut the lead to one with four seconds left. Perkins was able to draw a foul right before the half and sink both free throws, allowing the Jags to take a three point lead to the break.

A three by Payton McCallister gave SIU its first lead of the game one minute in to the third quarter. The Jags quickly would retake the lead and would not give up the lead for the rest of the quarter, despite multiple ties. A 6-0 run with four points by Allen pushed IUPUI's lead up to seven and a three by Hoopingarner with 6:25 left in the game put IUPUI up nine and looked like the Jags might have taken control of the game.

Southern Illinois chipped away at the lead for the next three minutes, eventually tying the game with just over three minutes left to set up the late game drama.

IUPUI will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Miami for a matchup with the Hurricanes on Sunday (Nov. 17).
