JAGS SWEPT BY WRIGHT STATE FOR FIRST HORIZON LEAGUE LOSS

IUPUI could not get the offense going, hitting just .061 in the three set loss to the Raiders.

DAYTON, Ohio – IUPUI volleyball suffered its first loss of Horizon League play with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) defeat at the hands of Wright State on Saturday (Oct. 5). The Jags offense struggled, hitting just .064 as a team in the loss.

IUPUI (6-10, 2-1 Horizon) was led on offense by senior Haley Hoffman and junior Maddie Dean who both finished with eight kills. Hoffman led the Jags with a .421 hitting percentage. Freshman Corrissa Remter tallied five kills and hit .364.

On defense, Rachel Hickey and McKayla Wright led the way for IUPUI with 11 digs. As a team the Jags reached double-digit blocks for the third-straight match collecting 10 as Hoffman and Remter each finished with five.

The Jags were hurt by a big run by Wright State (14-1, 3-0 Horizon) in the first set as the Raiders took control of the set, scoring seven of eight points after IUPUI had pulled within one at 12-11 after a Wright ace. A block by Hoffman and Kaitlyn Johnson pulled the Jags within four at 24-20 but Wright State closed the set with a kill on the next point.

A 5-0 run by Wright State early in the second put the Jags in a hole but IUPUI battled back to tie the set at 16 after a block by the freshman duo of Allie Pogue and Remter. The Jags then took a 17-16 lead after a Wright State error. The teams would go back-and-forth with IUPUI holding a 21-20 edge after a service error but the Raiders responded with five-straight points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead.

Another early run, this time a 7-1 run to start the set, put IUPUI behind the eight ball in an attempt to stay alive in the match. IUPUI would manage to cut the lead to five a couple of times in the set but would never get any closer, losing set three 25-15.

UP NEXT
IUPUI will take on Northern Kentucky to finish up the weekend with a match against the Norse on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 2 p.m.
