Having already secured a spot in the six-team Horizon League Tournament, the IUPUI women's soccer team will host Green Bay (7-9-1, 1-6-1 HL) on Friday (Nov. 1) at 2:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium with major seeding implications on the line. Head coach
Chris Johnson's team can still finish as high as the No. 2 seed and earn a first round bye and a trip to Milwaukee. The Jaguars are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over Wright State this past weekend, fueled by a pair of goals from junior
Valentine Pursey and a late insurance tally from
Elizabeth Bueckers.
MATCH INFO
- Friday's match will kickoff at 2:00 p.m. at the on-campus Carroll Stadium. The match will be aired on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw (pxp) is on the call and live stats will be available at kickoff.
- Admission is just $5 for ages 13-and-up and just $2 for youth, ages 3-12. IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card and parking is FREE during home events in lots 59, 63, 80 and 86.
THE SERIES
- IUPUI is 2-1-1 all-time against Green Bay and has won the last two meetings by a combined 7-1 score. The Jags won last year's meeting, 4-1, in Green Bay on Oct. 20, 2018. Bueckers scored a pair of goals in the win and Emma Chambers and Pursey also scored in the victory. Pursey closed with the game-winning goal and two assists as IUPUI scored four times in the game's opening 25 minutes.
- IUPUI is 1-1 in the two prior meetings, having lost 3-1 in 2014 and having won last year's meeting.
JAG SCRATCHES
- IUPUI enters play at 11-6-1 and 5-3 in Horizon League play. The Jags have outscored foes by a 25-16 margin on the year and blanked nine foes. The Jags are 6-2-1 at home this season and have allowed just five goals at home this season, good for a 0.53 goals against average at Carroll Stadium. Only one foe, Northern Kentucky, have scored more than one goal in a game against the Jags at Carroll Stadium this season.
- IUPUI's seven wins before Oct. 1 tied for the third most in program history. The 2017 squad, which won the Horizon League Tournament, had 10 wins heading into the month of October, while the 2009 squad, which won The Summit League Tournament, won eight matches prior to Oct. 1. The 2016 squad also won seven matches prior to Oct. 1 en route to a 9-7-3 finish.
- Three different players have registered multi-goal games this season, including a pair from Pursey (vs. Wright State - 10/27; at Valpo - 9/15). In addition, freshmen Maya Lacognato (at Detroit Mercy - 10/6) and Autumn Weeks (vs. UIC - 10/2) also have multi-goal games this season.
- Pursey leads the Jaguars in goals (7), assists (6), points (20), shots (59), shots on goal (27) and game-winners (4) this season. She's netted the winners against Southern Illinois, Valpo, Detroit Mercy and Wright State this season.
- Lacognato has tallied six goals on the year including the overtime tally against Cleveland State in the 95th minute. Lacognato has two overtime goals this season, having also done so in her collegiate debut against Toledo. Her two overtime goals rank third on the program's all-time list as both Tara Latella and Megan Hock are tied atop the all-time list with three overtime goals each.
- Lipka earned her 21st career shutout against Wright State on Oct. 27 and enters play tied atop the career leaderboard with Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's all-time record of 21 clean sheets. She was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 21.
- Pursey earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 16 after contributing to four of the Jaguars' six goals in 3-1 wins over Belmont and Valparaiso. Pursey had two assists in the Jaguars' 3-1 win over Belmont and followed with two goals in the win at Valpo, including the game-winner.
- Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career.
- For the season, Woodall has allowed just three goals in 560 minutes, good for a 0.48 goals against average.
- The win at Valparaiso was the 200th of the career of head coach Chris Johnson. Johnson has won 125 matches on the Jaguars' sidelines and collected 81 wins at UIndy from 1994-2002. Johnson is the program's all-time leader in wins (125) and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017).
- IUPUI is 3-1 this season against Missouri Valley Conference foes with road wins at SIU, Valpo and Evansville before losing at home to Illinois State.
- Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 24 career goals, 13 of which have been game-winners. Her 13 career game-winners are second on the program's all-time list, two shy of tying the school record.
- The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
- Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 1,552 minutes in the defensive third this season, more than 200 more than Pursey's 1,340, which ranks second on the team. McNally has played 94 percent of the team's minutes so far this season.
- The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
- IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY
- Green Bay enters play at 7-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix own road wins at Valpo, Chicago State, UC Davis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Mississippi Valley, Alcorn State and Youngstown State this season. The Phoenix are 7-4-1 away from home this season and just 0-5 at home.
- Grace Taylor, Caitlin Hawley and Jordyn Cook are tied with a team-high three goals while Ellie Vasey has a team-high nine points on two goals and five assists. Hawley has a team-high two game-winners and McKayla Kertscher has five assists and a team-high 29 shot attempts, putting 10 on goal. Fourteen different Green Bay players have at least one point this season.
- Courtney Klatt has played 1060 of the team's 1554 minutes in net this season, registering a 1.36 goals against average, 27 saves and a .628 save percentage. She's recorded a pair of shutouts in her 14 starts.
