MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Knowing they'd need a near perfect effort to knock off Horizon League leader Milwaukee on their home pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 23), the IUPUI women's soccer team ended up falling shy en route to a 3-0 loss to the Panthers. IUPUI dropped to 10-6-1 overall and 4-3 in Horizon League play while Milwaukee improved to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.

With the win, Milwaukee captured at least a share of the Horizon League regular season title while IUPUI still has work to do to secure a spot in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament.

Milwaukee got the winner in the 28th minute when the Jaguars' defense had a bad giveaway, deep in its own territory. Milwaukee's Taylor Hattori picked up the free ball and slid a shot past Sophia Lipka, who was stuck without much of an opportunity to make a save.

IUPUI had looks in the first half from Valentine Pursey and Renae Blevins, but neither was able to equalize against Milwaukee keeper Elaina LaMacchia. IUPUI took advantage of a strong tailwind to outshoot Milwaukee 9-5 in the opening half and earn a pair of corner kicks.

In the 69th minute, Milwaukee's Gaby Schwartz arced a perfectly placed free kick over Lipka from long distance for her sixth score of the season. The Panthers added late insurance when Mackenzie Schill tucked a left-footed strike just inside the post for her sixth tally of the year.

Going against the wind in the second half, IUPUI was outshot 10-1 overall and unable to muster much of an attack in the final 45 minutes.

Pursey led the Jags with three shot attempts while Maya Turner had two. Lipka made five saves while LaMacchia was pressed into eight saves for the Panthers.

IUPUI will return home to host Wright State on Sunday (Oct. 27) at 1:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium.
