The IUPUI women's soccer team will look to get back on the winning side of the ledger on Saturday (Oct. 12) when the Jaguars head north to take on Oakland University (4-5-2, 2-1-1 HL) at 1:00 p.m. at the Oakland Soccer Field. The Jaguars come in having won three straight league matches after dropping their opener at home to Northern Kentucky. However, head coach
Chris Johnson's team recently had a four-game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 non-league outcome against Illinois State on Tuesday.
MATCH INFO
- Saturday's match will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday from the Oakland Soccer Field. There will be no live video, but live stats will be available at kickoff.
- The IUPUI men's team will take on Oakland immediately afterwards at 4:00 p.m. as part of OU's Homecoming Weekend.
THE SERIES
- IUPUI is just 3-16 all-time against Oakland and has lost six straight in the series dating back to 2010.
- IUPUI's last win in the series was a 3-1 home decision on Oct. 30, 2009.
- IUPUI is just 1-8 all-time in the nine meetings in Rochester, which includes a 2-1 loss to the Golden Grizzlies in 2017. The lone road win was a 3-1 outcome on Oct. 10, 2008.

- IUPUI's seven wins before Oct. 1 tied for the third most in program history. The 2017 squad, which won the Horizon League Tournament, had 10 wins heading into the month of October, while the 2009 squad, which won The Summit League Tournament, won eight matches prior to Oct. 1. The 2016 squad also won seven matches prior to Oct. 1 en route to a 9-7-3 finish.
- IUPUI has two different freshmen tally multi-goal games this month as Maya Lacognato scored twice in the 3-0 win at Detroit Mercy (Oct. 6) and Autumn Weeks tallied twice in the 2-1 win over UIC (Oct. 2).
- Junior Valentine Pursey is tied with Lacognato with a team-high five goals and leads the Jaguars in assists (5), points (15), shot attempts (46) and game-winners (3).
- Lipka earned her 19th career shutout at Detroit Mercy (Oct. 6) and enters play two shy of tying Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's career record of 21 clean sheets.
- Pursey earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 16 after contributing to four of the Jaguars' six goals in 3-1 wins over Belmont and Valparaiso. Pursey had two assists in the Jaguars' 3-1 win over Belmont and followed with two goals in the win at Valpo, including the game-winner.
- Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career.
- For the season, Woodall has allowed just three goals in 560 minutes, good for a 0.48 goals against average.
- The win at Valparaiso was the 200th of the career of head coach Chris Johnson. Johnson has won 123 matches on the Jaguars' sidelines and collected 81 wins at UIndy from 1994-2002. Johnson is the program's all-time leader in wins (123) and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017).
- IUPUI is 9-4-1 on the season, having blanked seven opponents this year. The Jags have shutout Toledo, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Youngstown State and Detroit Mercy this year and yielded just 12 goals in 14 games.
- IUPUI is 3-1 this season against Missouri Valley Conference foes with road wins at SIU, Valpo and Evansville before losing at home to Illinois State.
- Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 22 career goals, 12 of which have been game-winners. Her 12 career game-winners are second on the program's all-time list, three shy of tying the school record.
- The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
- Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 1,189 minutes in the defensive third this season, 160 more than Pursey's 1,029, which ranks second on the team. McNally has played 92 percent of the team's minutes so far this season.
- The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
- IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago.
SCOUTING OAKLAND
- Oakland is 4-5-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in Horizon League play with wins over Youngstown State and Detroit Mercy.
- The Golden Grizzlies are 3-2 at home this season with the two losses coming to Notre Dame and Michigan State.
- Alexa Sabbagh leads the Oakland attack with four goals and an assist while Sami Lopez has added three goals. Sierra Grodsinsky and Kendra Zak are tied with a team-high three assists.
- Jaimie Leas has played the majority of the team's minutes in goal, logging a 1.67 goals against average and 27 saves in her nine appearances. She has a .675 save percentage and one shutout, having blanked YSU earlier this season.
