MUNCIE, Ind. – IUPUI will take a break from tournament play for a midweek contest against Ball State on Tuesday (Sept. 11). The Jags will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they take on the Cardinals at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Jaguars (2-8) have won all three matchups against Ball State in the last three seasons, including a five-set win at home a season ago.
Senior
Maggie Gibson continues to lead the offense for head coach
Steve Payne, with 3.24 kills per set and a team-high .237 hitting percentage. Gibson also remains second on the team in both assists per set (3.35) and digs per set (3.14). Against Samford on Friday (Sept. 7) Gibson posted her third triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 13 assists and 14 digs. Gibson has posted double-digit kills in eight of the 10 matches this season, reached 10 assists in seven matches and tallied 10 or more digs in six.
Sophomore
Rebecca Schlechte is the team leader in assists per set (6.08). On the defensive end,
Haley Hoffman leads the Jags in blocks per set (1.00) and freshman
Shakana Norfleet is second on the squad (0.68). Fellow freshman
Rachel Hickey is tops in digs per set (4.41) and
Rhiannon Schuenemann is tied with Gibson for second with 3.14 digs per set.
Ball State enters the contest with a 5-4 record and lost their last match, 2-3 to Indiana. The Cardinals have lost three of the last four matches with the only win being a three set victory over North Dakota State.
Ball State is hitting .236 as a team and Sydnee VanBeek is leading the team with a .362 hitting percentage. VanBeek is second on the team with 2.71 kills per set, trailing only Elli Dunn's 3.57 kills per set. The offense is guided by Amber Seaman who is averaging 9.88 assists per set.
The defense for Ball State is very balanced with five players averaging at least 2.00 digs per set. Kate Avila is the leader with 4.57 digs per set. At the net, Meg Starling leads a team that averages 2.06 blocks per set, stuffing 1.09 per set.
